Ebook About Written in easy, conversational English, ECCO! reviews and explains allmajor points of Italian grammar, with special attention to those areasthat appear more foreign to English speakers. Emphasis is also placed onvocabulary enrichment. The book presents about 6,000 Italian words, grouped thematically by structural or grammatical characteristics, many ofthem illustrated by examples. It also includes about 1,000 Italian idioms(particular turns of phrase peculiar to the language) and lists all irregularforms of verbs and nouns. Students wanting to move beyond an elementaryacquaintance with Italian will fi nd the book useful as a self-teaching tool,an adjunct to other textbooks or as a reference sourceBook Ecco!: An Introduction to Advanced Italian Review :
There are some books that systematically present the grammar of a language. There are other books that explain how people really use a language. This book is both. It goes through the detail of the grammar like a traditional textbook. But it's also got all the tips and tricks that are useful for remembering all those details. Make ho mistake, Italian is a wonderful, beautiful language; it's also cranky and idiosyncratic. Every rule, it seems, has at least one commonly used exception and five variations only used in certain circumstances. It is both enriched and complicated by its history. This is your guidebook through that history. I searched for a book like this for some time. If you have been a student of Spanish as well, you may be familiar with the beloved classic Breaking Out of Beginner's Spanish. Well, look no further: you've found it.But it doesn't stop there. Italian is a language full of proverbs and idioms. This book also presents 1000 of these idioms, introduced at logical places in the text. I'm undecided whether this is a good thing or not. On the one hand, presenting them together with related points of grammar is interesting and may be memorable; on the other, mite can make it hard to just go in and brush up on a point of grammar, say before a test.Regardless, the book is an amazing tour through the rich history and maddening complexity that is the Italian language. It's also an incredible bargain to boot; the author could charge three or four times the price and it would still be a bargain. Better buy it now before he changes his mind! If you already have a pretty complete understanding of Italian grammar, this book will help you answer questions that put the whole thing into context. The author explains quite well various applications of italian grammar, which will expand your knowledge and provide a deeper understanding of the language, from the point of view of a native speaker. I've studied Italian both here in the U.S. and in Italy. I found that, while the Italians are great at teaching (in italian) subjects like literature and art history, they sometimes don't understand what a non-native needs to know about the language. But the author of this book is a fabulous grammar teacher, and can really demystify points of grammar that weren't explained well by other teachers. This is the best italian grammar book I've seen, and I own several dozen other less informative ones. Highly recommended!
